All full moons are referred to by a name that depends on when it occurs and associations with the seasons. Naming each full Moon was not for romantic reasons, it was a very early way of keeping track of the passing of time.
In the Northern hemisphere, the full Moon in April is often referred to as the Pink Moon. Obviously it's not pink! However, the April full Moon coincided with the first few blossoms of a pinkish moss which flourished throughout the Northern hemisphere and still flourishes predominantly in the North Americas.
This year the April full Moon is the first to occur in the Spring season, which began on the 20th of March. That makes it a Paschal full Moon. Fret not - we are not going to get all astro-techno on you!
The date on which Easter is celebrated is dependent on the Paschal Moon - the first full Moon of the Spring season. Easter is held on the first Sunday after it. Hence this year, Easter Sunday is the 17th of April following the full Moon on Saturday the 16th.
Many of us plan our rituals around the movements of the Moon, so a full Moon as the culmination of the lunar cycle is always an important event.
Whilst a full Moon is obviously the best time to practice lunar rituals, as this is the first of the Spring season, use it to reconnect with nature. Whatever your full Moon rituals consist of, we strongly suggest that you try practising them (weather permitting) outdoors.
A full Moon is a time for cleansing, clearing the mind and refreshing your focus.
If you are using lunar influences in your rituals, always be aware of the astrological sign the Moon is in at the time.
As with any full Moon you would use its powers to cleanse and charge your crystals, create Moon water, or maybe even enjoy a full Moon bath with essential oils added and a few fresh spring flowers.
