 St Madron
Holy Well & Chapel
A couple of Miles Northwest of Penzance, Cornwall
About a mile outside of the village of Madron, not far from Penzance in Cornwall, you'll see a signpost for Boswarthen Chapel and Well.
The Well is ancient, and has been known by many names over time, Madron Well, the Holy Well of St Maddern and today it is known as the Wishing Well. It has been long revered for its magical and healing powers, steeped in folklore is believed to have been in use for thousands of years, and would have also been the main source of water supply for the villagers.
Just a few minutes walk from the Well you will find the ruins of Boswarthen Chapel, which is absolutely beautiful. Another Well from the same source of water from the Holy Well can be found inside the remains.
Today, the small Chapel is minus its roof, but the rest has been restored, with its internal stone benches and large altar, it is a site to see. There is a corner font which is fed by the Well, but there was no water when we visited, we are told that the feed from the Well is blocked by a stone, for protection.
