Tuesday 14th June at 12:52 Well, what a Full Moon this is! A Super Moon to boot!
The Super full June Moon in Sagittarius will be a wonderful sight to see. Fingers and paws are crossed here at Flickering HQ for a clear night sky.
Over the centuries, the June Full Moon has been referred to by many names, depending on location and what was significant or symbolically important to the people at that time.
Hence, ‘Strawberry Moon’, ‘Rose Moon’, and ‘Mead Moon’ have all been used when referring to the full Moon of June.
Let’s move swiftly backwards numerous centuries... This month is named after the Roman Goddess Juno.
Our ancestors would have related the time to the colour of the Moon (which often appears more ‘golden’ at this time) and the first batch of honey - may be ready to make mead.
So it would have been referred to as a ‘Honey Moon’.
Whilst it would have been a time when all the able men and women of the village were required in the fields, a couple married (joined together by handfasting) would be given a day off to...and hence we have the term honeymoon.
This is an amazing point in the year when the full Moon can appear in the sky, prior to the setting of the Sun.
It’s an opportunity to embrace the power of the Sun and the Moon.
As with all Super Moons, spells and rituals performed under Luna’s amazing power, will give them added strength and vitality.
