An island off the north-west coast of Wales
Homeland of the Druids
Well maybe, but it may simply have been the last stand...
Our tree and nature worshipping ancients, which we are referring to as the Celts, were spread far and wide across the majority of Northern Europe but also encompassed parts of Spain and Northern Italy.
The leaders of the Celts (by religion) were the Druids. In ancient Rome, they fully understood the power which the Druids wielded over the populace and therefore knew that in order to subjugate the people to the power of Rome, they would have to firstly, overcome the Druids.
The Celts were nomadic and would have moved around the British Isles as the seasons suited. Druids were all powerful and such movements were not questioned.
The Druids really didn’t help preserve the faith by insisting that knowledge could only be passed on by word of mouth. This was undoubtedly to preserve the power they wielded to themselves. Whilst the written script (possibly in Ogham) may have been primitive had it been used a little more it would have given them a legacy that we could today relate better to.
