matter, their end would come when it was destined to do so.
This originated from their Germanic ancestors and the three sister Goddesses known as Norns, which effectively meant fate. Between them, they created everyone's life thread and its length which could not be changed.
Believing that the day and time of their demise were fixed and unavoidable made them fearless.
Added to that, your average murderous, pillaging, axe-wielding Viking would have had an instilled fear of simply dying of old age or sickness.
That would have led them to be the equivalent of simple Norsemen who were fishermen, grew crops, and reared animals that fed the murderous, pillaging, axe-wielding Vikings....their fate was Helheim.
Helheim was ruled by Hel, the daughter of Loki. A dark, dismal eternal existence that was so bad that the Christians (their PR company was amazing) used it as an original to them and called it Hell.
All of which explains why so many Norsemen who farmed or fished and grew crops would have sharpened their axes and sailed on the seas when called to.
Their end date was already established, so better to fall in battle than on the farm.
