After his death the vast empire he had built fragmented.
Eventually, a Greek general called Ptolemy seized Egypt and for the next 300 years or so, the land was ruled by his descendants.
The last of which was Cleopatra.
The Romans took Egypt in 30 BC and declared it to be a province of the Roman Empire and so the country ceased to be an independent kingdom.
The end was in sight, by 70 AD the spread of Christianity reached Alexandria and by 180 AD the southern border.
Consequently, it was the end of the millennia during which the Gods had been worshipped and along with it the end of ancient Egyptian culture.
One wonders, if the native Pharaohs of Egypt had taken a different path and were never defeated, what
it would be like today as a modern country.
Magnificent springs to mind, in architecture, religion and art, let alone engineering and technology, we suspect they would have been pioneers.
It is sad that such a rich culture in body, mind and soul diminished into non existence, one feels it is at the worlds loss.
